Marine Restoration and Salvage produces a superb hand turned wooden flagpole, beautifully tapered from the square base to the truck (top). Ranging in length from 15' to 50+', these wood flagpoles are made of vertical grain Douglas fir shipped to us from British Columbia. We have a fully equipped woodshop that can mill virtually any diameter pole with a 56 foot lathe for turning.
Our flagpoles are fabricated like our spars: eight sided fir staves glued with epoxy and blocked at the butt and tip, then rounded on the lathe. This method results in a stronger, stiffer pole that is 40% lighter than a solid one, making it easier to transport. Since the pole is set on a tabernacle, the weight reduction can make routine maintenance much easier.
The pole is finished with a coat of marine grade sealer, primer and two topcoats. Our poles are shipped with a turned lignum vitae truck, which is a traditional method of rigging the halyard. This system eliminates the problem of hardware jamming or corroding at the tip. The wood is impervious to decay and needs no special finish.
The wood flagpoles are topped with a glided wooden ball, which is turned by hand to fit your pole. We typically use fir, then prime and topcoat it in preparation for gliding. The gold leaf should outlast any aluminum ball or painted surface.
We recommend installing the wooden flagpole with a tabernacle, which consists of two pressure-treated posts bolted to the base of the flagpole. This allows the pole to be pivoted for lowering, which simplifies maintenance.
A clear varnish or urethane finish is available for an extra
charge. We have even applied a wood stain with stunning results.
This year, we're continuing to ship flagpoles for customers
across the country and beyond, from New Jersey to Washington
state, and Bermuda. We can ship throughout the United States.
Shipping costs vary according to weigth and distance.
